Live from Luxembourg with Zero Point Five

In honor of Luxembourg’s National Day, four members of Zero Point Five performed a 45-minute concert of original music as well as traditional Luxembourgish songs. Songs were performed in a mix of English and Luxembourgish.
Zero Point Five is one of the most played bands on Luxembourg national television and radio stations. Their sound can be described as an explosion of musical flavors: pop, folk, Celtic and country with a Luxembourg twist; their music having been compared to Mumford and Sons and the Zac Brown band.

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary in the United States and the 101st Anniversary in Luxembourg of Women’s Voting Rights, this conference focused on the suffrage movement in both countries. This conference is available to both members and the general public with a grant by the Wisconsin Humanities Council.

Making Luxembourg Sweet Bretzels

Join Marc Weydert in his home kitchen as he walks us through making this traditional Luxembourgish recipe. This is a recording of a live virtual cooking class sponsored by the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and hosted by Marc Weydert. The class covers making Luxembourgish sweet bretzels, traditionally gifted on Bretzelsonndeg.
Marc Weydert graduated in Education Sciences. He is a teacher by training and he’s currently working for the Luxembourg Ministry of Education as a French text book author. He is married to Luxembourg diplomat Véronique Dockendorf and they have 3 daughters, Amélie, Sophie and Julie. Prior to moving to Brussels in summer of 2020, they spent 4 years in Washington, DC, where Véronique was posted as Deputy Head of Mission at the Luxembourg Embassy. From 2008 to 2012, the family lived their first « American » experience in New York City, while being posted to the Permanent Mission of Luxembourg to the United Nations.
Cooking and baking is one of Marc’s favorite hobbies, amongst others like composing and making music as well as woodworking. He attended culinary classes at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and at L’Académie de Cuisine in Bethesda, MD, and animated two cooking workshops about Luxembourg cuisine at the Washington, DC YMCA in 2019 and 2020. Marc is also a writer, and the winner of the 2021 Luxembourg National Literature Contest, for his co-authored book called “Twisted Stories” in Luxembourgish.
The History of Flag Day

This Flag Day Presentation hosted by Curator Serena Stuettgen features the origin story of Luxembourg-American Bernard Cigrand. He is known as the ‘Father of Flag Day.’ The presentation with also cover the history of the Stony Hill Schoolhouse in Waubeka, WI where Cigrand designated June 14th as America’s Flag Day. The presentation features photos from LACS archives. A special thank you to Olivia Hoff, Allen Buchholz, Keri Eichner, Ozaukee County Historical Society, and the National Flag Day Foundation.
