38th Annual Luxembourg Fest Press Release
LACS Announces 2024 Luxembourg Fest
BELGIUM, WISCONSIN, June 12, 2024. Nestled in the heart of Europe is the quaint country of Luxembourg. Though smaller than the state of Rhode Island, Luxembourg piques interest as the world’s last sovereign grand duchy and one of the richest countries on the planet. In the 1800s, Luxembourg immigrants settled around what is now the Village of Belgium, and the area’s pride in its unique Luxembourg heritage and continued ties with the country still stand strong today. The Luxembourg American Cultural Society is proud to provide an authentic Luxembourg experience in Belgium, Wisconsin at the 38th annual Luxembourg Fest of America August 9-11, 2024.
Friday, August 9th, the LACS hosts its annual Cultural Forum, “Luxembourg Culinary Traditions,” featuring Guy Thewes, director of Lëtzebuerg City Museum and Villa Vauban. The forum takes place at Ozaukee Nonprofit Center with registration and coffee at 9:30 am and the conference from 10 am- noon. Registration links can be found at https://www.lacs.lu/luxembourg-fest-week/cultural-forum/.
Saturday, August 10th, the Hämmelsmarsch (sheep march), which traditionally kicks off Luxembourgish festivals, commences at 11 am with a parade marching west down Belgium’s Main Street to festival grounds at Community Park. Immediately following the parade, the Wisconsin Diamond Dancers will lead free Luxembourgish folk dance lessons. All are welcome to participate, regardless of age or skill level.
Fest guests will be able to dine on authentic Luxembourg street food, prepared by Luxembourg chefs Nicky Krieger-Loos and Marc Weydert, bear witness to (or participate in) the World’s Largest Treipen-eating Contest, shop the Kënschtler Eck (artist corner), and sip the finest in Luxembourgish beers, wines and ciders as live music plays by band, The Other Side.
A complimentary Kid’s Zone will once again be provided, with straw bales and the hands-on animal experience provided by Ms. Kim’s Amazing Animals thrilling younger guests.
Saturday evening, the eagerly anticipated “Luxembourg Under the Stars” al fresco culinary experience will transform Belgium’s Village Square. The evening boasts a delectable Luxembourgish dinner, paired with imported beverages from Ansay International. This year’s menu is curated by Luxembourg restaurant mogul Tom Hickey, in partnership with Mequon’s Lowlands Private Events & Catering. The meal will be thoughtfully created using the crème de la crème of Luxembourgish products paired with Luxembourg beer, wine, and cider, imported by Port Washington’s Ansay International. Live music by Tonic Roots Trio rounds out the night. Tickets can now be reserved at https://www.lacs.lu/luxembourg-fest-week/luxembourg-under-the-stars/
Sunday will once again be reserved for the Luxembourg Fest Mass, which begins on Fest grounds at 10 am. Following mass will be the Luxembourg Fest pageantry, where Karen and Joe Jasper will be crowned Duke and Duchess of Fest, and the Jacoby family will be honored. Lunch, which includes both the popular Luxembourg treipen and American fare will be available after the service, and magician/comedian Glen Gerard will entertain the crowd.
