The Museum

The Luxembourg American Cultural Society’s Roots and Leaves Museum is the showpiece of the Cultural Center.  Housed in the rebuilt Mamer-Hansen Luxembourgian stone barn originally built in 1872 by Jacob Mamer, a Luxembourg immigrant who came to Ozaukee County, Wisconsin in 1846, the museum tells the story of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as Luxembourg immigration.

ABOUT THE LUXEMBOURG AMERICAN CULTURAL SOCIETY:
The mission of the LACS is to preserve the roots of Luxembourgish heritage and nurture the leaves of ongoing relationships between Luxembourg and America. The LACS has thousands of members from several countries around the world, connecting individuals across the large Luxembourg American Community. In a typical year, the LACS hosts multiple tours to Luxembourg, assists thousands of individuals in completing the dual citizenship application process, presents educational virtual programs, and hosts events including the annual Luxembourg Fest and Cultural Forum. Additionally, the Luxembourg American Cultural Society is the only cultural institute trusted under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

The LACS is based at the Luxembourg American Cultural Center in Belgium, Wisconsin, which also houses the Roots & Leaves Museum, Dooley-Wagner Research Center- the largest research center for Luxembourg studies and genealogy outside of the Grand Duchy, and a Luxembourg gift shop. In the Museum, guests can explore the history of Luxembourg immigration to America and the impact that immigrants along with their descendants have had. Currently located at 100 Peter Thein Avenue Belgium, WI, the Museum is housed in the rebuilt Mamer-Hansen Luxembourgian stone barn originally built in 1872. Featuring an exhibit space crafted by Luxembourgish artisans with Luxembourg historical items from the country’s ministry of Culture, the museum honors Luxembourg, the world’s only Grand Duchy. The Cultural Center also features the J. B. Krier Wëllkomm Centre, home of the Luxembourg American Family Tree – a nostalgia-inducing sculpture created in Luxembourg, and a gift shop including a variety of Luxembourgish-themed items available for purchase.

The Dooley-Wagner Research Center, another unique facet of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society, is the largest research center for Luxembourg studies and genealogy outside of Luxembourg. It is a treasure trove of information and resources for historians, genealogists and researchers. **Note: The Research Center is open by appointment only. Appointments can be made by contacting Caitlin Armstrong via email carmstrong@lacs.lu.

Please contact Mileana Burmesch with any press requests- mburmesch@lacs.lu
